Archives

Embarking on 34 years of Albuquerque Pride, the community can look back at its history as well as dream about its future.  The Albuquerque Pride Archives are presented each year during Pride to the community.  The Pride Archives can be seen on Friday, June 11th from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm and Saturday, June 12th from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

Over the years, Pride has kept the files of events including articles, posters, meeting minutes, business transactions and community flyers.   PJ Sedillo, in the year 2000, decided that it was time to organize and display Albuquerque Pride’s history.  He began to create the Albuquerque Pride Archives.  PJ researched and collected, with the assistance or other individuals within the community, information about Albuquerque Pride.   Other organization’s files were either destroyed, lost, or in the hands or others who did not want to give up their precious past treasures.  Neil Isbin’s archives (locate in Santa Fe) were copied and submitted as archival past.   Many community members did eventually “raid” their files and graciously donated the early years of archival history.  Many of the early T-Shirts were found and donated; however, there are some that are still missing, as well as crucial archival history.  Actual recordings of the Albuquerque pride Parade from the 1980’s were graciously donated by Jack Denver as well as documents from Jon Hull and Michael Tellez.

The Albuquerque Pride Archives are looking for indivi8duals to assist with the process of grant writing for acquiring funds for photocopying the original documents.  Some of the archives are one of a kind and need to be preserved for the future.  If your are interested and have grant writing skills or have any past archival history to donate, please contact Albuquerque Pride at info@abqpride.com or 505-873-8084.  Experience our prideful past.
