What is the Candlelight Vigil?

The Albuquerque Pride 4th annual Candlelight Vigil was started in 2007 to honor the “birthplace” of Albuquerque Pride’s own Stonewall, which ended at Morningside Park.  The City of Albuquerque has dedicated a permanent Memorial Art Sculpture to celebrate  Albuquerque Pride’s historic endeavors and celebrate the entire Albuquerque GLBT community.

This is an outdoor event held at Morningside Park.  Just before sunset, the community joins together in the park carrying candles and becoming centered. Throughout history, there has been people who have had to protest for our rights or have suffered injustice because of their sexuality.  We use this time to remember and celebrate their lives and the differences they made. Each year we invite community members to speak about the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and questioning experience. Historically, Morningside Park has been apart of the lives of many GLBTQ people and was apart of Albuquerque Pride’s history, too.

The Candlelight Vigil is the kick of day for Albuquerque Pride Events and collector’s card will be distributed during this event for you to remember your participation.
