Pre-Pride Glam Dance Party
0
You’re invited to the Alibi’s Pre-Pride Glam Dance Party

In the ’70s, rock and roll flew an intergalactic cruise ship to the planet Glitter and mined its three moons—Pleasure, Androgyny and Polyester. Its captains were the likes of Ziggy Stardust, The Sweet, Slade, Queen, Elton John, the New York Dolls, T. Rex and the cast of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Incorporating outrageous costumes and highly conceptual theatricality, this jubilant yet heavy sound that we know asglam was not just about amazing guitar parts (though there were plenty of them).
Albuquerque Pride is nigh, and for the third year, theWeekly Alibi’s Group Hug will be hosting a glam-rock-themed pre-Pride party. (Observe the photographic evidence of the fun had at Glam Dance Parties past.) We cordially invite you to drape yourself in flamboyant fabrics and celebrate tolerance and diversity with us at Lotus Nightclub on Wednesday, June 27. We’ll be ballroom-blitzing glam rock tracks all night long with plenty of ’70s and ’80s disco, and modern electro thrown in for good measure. The 2012 New Mexico Pride titleholders will hold court, and drag performances will ensue. Photo Booth Rentals of New Mexico will provide a free photo booth in which you can document your makeup handiwork. Free confections will abound as Rebel Donutwill be crafting hundreds of sparkly donuts and cupcakes for all. Costumes are highly encouraged—if you have glitter pants or a silver unitard, this is the perfect opportunity to take them out of the closet. (see full article at alibi.com, click here)

2012 Pride Parade Grand Marshal
0We are pleased to welcomes LGBTIQ veterans and active duty members of the United States Armed Forces to join the American Veterans For Equal Rights (AVER) as our Grand Marshal in the 2012 Albuquerque Pride Parade. You may join the march or, if you are unable to march, ride on AVER’s parade float. Please come to the step-off point of the parade between 7:30am to 9:00am at UNM on Central and Stanford.
Throughout our history, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and two-spirit Americans served in the Armed Forces. They took an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America against all enemies both foreign and domestic. It is the right of these Americans to express personal aspects of their lives, and, in particular, aspects of their sexual orientation and/or gender identification. Furthermore, they should be allowed to do this in an environment free from harassment and discrimination based on prejudice, fear, ignorance, or intolerance in order to fulfill their human potential to the fullest.
Working as individuals or in cohesive units with others while serving our country in either war or peace our members have accumulated distinguished records of military service that demonstrate a resolve and a commitment to cherished American ideals. AVER is active duty personnel, reservists, and veterans of the United States Air Force, Army, Army Air Corps, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Merchant Marine, National Guard, and Navy, or any reserve components thereof, or the various State Militia. In pursuit of common goals we proudly join together as the American Veterans for Equal Rights.
Please join us Saturday, June 30that 10am down Central Avenue as our Grand Marshal continues their activism, working for our local lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer/questioning community. For more information about or how you can help AVER please contact Steve Loomis at sloomis@swcp.com.
Bring Your Pets to PrideFest
0
and avoid the wait in line.
This year Albuquerque Pride will feature a new section at the 2012 PrideFest—the PrideFest Pet Care Center. The twelve booths and stage will feature such services as the New Mexico Pet Sitters Alliance’s booth. This booth will showcase pet sitters in the greater Albuquerque/Rio Rancho area. Animal Humane New Mexico is sponsoring the Pet Park this year and will provide poop stations, water stations, doggy pool and much more.
Included will be information about each pet sitter, their locations and contact information. Featured will be an online pet sitter search feature so that you can locate your pet sitter on-the-spot.
You will find hand out information on pets and their proper care especially during these hot summer months.
There will be a raffle, free treats, and other fun things for you and your four footed partner. You will find caring professional pet sitters who love pets of all kind and lots of doggy kisses.
There will also be live staged events including a pet parade to lead things off. Please check out the Albuquerque Pride website for more details on upcoming live events and how to participate in them.
Bring yourself, your partner, all your friends and family; and of course, your furry, friendly, lovable, bouncy, proud dog to help launch this latest addition to Albuquerque Pride’s commitment to serving the LGBTIQ community.
